The blast wheel is the core component of a shot blasting machine; any malfunction directly impacts cleaning effectiveness and operational safety. Common blast wheel malfunctions and their troubleshooting methods are outlined below:

**Common Malfunctions and Troubleshooting Methods**

**Excessive Vibration in the Blast Wheel**

Severely worn blades, leading to dynamic imbalance → replace the worn blades; replace them in sets to maintain balance.

Bent main shaft → Straighten or replace the main shaft.

Loose mounting bolts → Inspect and tighten all bolts.

Damaged bearings → replace the bearings and apply lubricant/grease.

**Abnormal Noise from the Blast Wheel**

Shot media does not meet specifications (e.g., contains oversized particles or impurities) → replace with qualified shot media.

Guard plate is loose or rubbing against the impeller → Adjust the position of the guard plate.

Coupling disc bolts are loose → Tighten the coupling disc bolts.

**Insufficient or Uneven Shot Flow**

Insufficient shot media supply → Replenish the shot media to the appropriate level.

Control cage window is misaligned → Adjust the opening position of the control cage.

Distributor wheel or control cage is worn → Inspect and replace the worn components.

Shot feed gate opening is too small → Adjust the opening size of each shot feed gate.

**Blast Wheel Motor Overheating or Abnormal Current**

Excessive shot flow rate → Reduce the shot flow rate via the shot feed gate.

Damaged or unlubricated bearings → replace the bearings and apply lubricant.

Motor seized/jammed → Check for obstructions caused by oversized shot media or foreign objects.

**Daily Preventive Maintenance Suggestions**

**Pre-startup Inspection:** Verify that the shot media supply is sufficient, seals are intact, and the emergency stop button is functional.

**Operational Monitoring:** Record the motor current every 2 hours (ensuring it does not exceed 10% above the rated value) and periodically inspect the cleaning quality of the workpieces.

**Post-shutdown Maintenance:** Daily removal of broken shot and dust; monthly lubrication (greasing) of the bearings.

**Use of Qualified Shot Media:** Avoid mixing in foreign objects; periodically screen the media to remove broken shot and dust.
